Twitter Mania - My Take

or some ways to use it as a 'marketing' piece - but just like myspace.com, everyone is going to start to see it as spam if you hastily jump on the bandwagon.

I have been seeing a lot of twitter training, actually, there are already 35,000 results on google for "twitter training".  Why is this?  Probably because it's a nice technology - and it's fun to watch the rockstars.  Just don't go spending a lot of time on this OVER your other marketing projects.

People will have opinions, I just like the technology.  There is a good real-world analog I think - if you are interesting, people will 'follow' your tweets... Unless you are Oprah, or Mr. Obama, you probably won't see millions of hits.

Let's think this through, and I'll use myself as an example:

  1. Troy(me) from Dr PC Fix goes and signs up for a free account.
  2. I start tweeting about how great twitter is, then about a coupon for a free computer repair, then about a beautiful vacation I'm about to take.
  3. Then I email all my friends and ask them to 'follow' me.  (being very careful to not look like I'm showing off how hip and tech-savvy I am by exploiting the latest craze) Maybe I stick it in the bottom of a carefully crafted tip of the week or something.
  4. I have now started a basic twitter campaign.  YAY
  5. PROFIT!

Everyone has heard about blogs and how to incorporate them into a marketing campaign - twitter is a mini blog.  I'm using a blog, I might as well be using twitter.  I'm too lazy to go log in to another site when I have perfectly good space right here..

- woohoo!! THAT'S what's great about it :)
